Authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Secretary of State to purchase new voting equipment from Dominion Voting Systems, with full funding provided by the State of Michigan.

              WHEREAS, the City’s voting equipment is over 12 years old and is nearing the end of its expected lifespan; and


              WHEREAS, through a state-wide bidding process, the Secretary of State, Bureau of Elections, has narrowed the selection to three (3) approved vendors who offer an optical scan voting system, accessible voting devices and related election software (hereinafter referred to as “voting system”); and


              WHEREAS, St. Clair County was required to choose one vendor to provide all of the equipment to the various jurisdictions and Dominion Voting System was selected; and


              WHEREAS, full funding for the new voting system will be provided by the State and will include a combination of federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and State-appropriated funds; and


              WHEREAS, before the City can receive the equipment, the City must apply to the Secretary of State for a grant to purchase the voting system from Dominion;


              NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Port Huron City Council does hereby authorize the City Clerk to apply for the grant to purchase the new election voting system and is authorized to sign any appropriate documentation on behalf of the City.
